Vice President, Product Development



At Bonide, the Product Development Vice President, oversees all operations, functions and activities related to projects as they move through the various stages of product development. Projects are managed up until they are promoted to the Launch Phase and turned over to the Marketing Launch Team assigned to the project/product. Members of the Product Development & Regulatory Teams, including the VP will serve at times on various Marketing Launch Teams. A successful PD VP is responsible for giving the proper strategic direction to their team and as a Management Team member, communicating and implementing a high-quality vision for the company.

An excellent PD VP is an influential manager with the ability to lead, empower and motivate. They have great communication skills and take a holistic approach in managing the team’s operations.


As a member of the Leadership Team at Bonide, the PD VP will work and serve as a facilitator of effective communication within the Management Team. This includes helping to set the vision of the company going into the future and developing the products needed to make the vision come to fruition.


The goal is to manage and lead the Product Development and Regulatory Teams toward the realization of their mission as well as provide seamless support to fellow Management Team members ensuring the attainment of the company’s financial goals.


Reporting Structure

This position reports to directly to the CEO. With the Regulatory Manager as a direct report.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


Be the bridge between Formulation, Production, Sourcing, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory, Finance and Development to ensure smooth progressions through the product development and regulatory process for all new projects.


Work with and support marketing in developing and implementing strategies aiming to successfully launch newly developed products as well as promote the organization’s mission and “voice.”


Consult with and support sales to fully understand market needs and draft strategic plans for projects to ensure success of new products.


Work collaboratively with Marketing and Sales to complete business plans for new projects for the attainment of sales goals and financial objectives.


Ensure adherence of the organization’s daily activities and long-term plans to established policies and legal guidelines.


Devise remedial actions for any identified issues and conduct crisis management when necessary.

Forge and maintain relations of trust with fellow Management Team members to facilitate and encourage open communication of needs and strategic plans.


Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate managers.


Product Development/Project Management:

Direct and oversee the Bonide internal field development budget as well as ADAMA Investment budget.


Review reports by team members/consultants to ensure necessary project management steps are being taken to facilitate progression of each project through the necessary development stages in a timely manner.


Project Management responsibilities include taking new products from inception to launch includes interaction within the company, ensuring coordination with:

  1. Regulatory: Receiving updates on EPA submissions and relevant dates and timing so projects can be managed in an efficient and timely manner.
  2. Sales and Marketing: Business plan support through interaction
  3. Production: Packaging details, costing (to support business plan; production and costing details)
  4. Marketing: Market position as compared with competitive products



Work closely with Regulatory providing necessary data and input to ensure timely submission of new products to EPA.


Direct and oversee the Bonide internal regulatory budget as well as the related ADAMA Investment budget.


Direct Label creation process with relevant Technical Team members for new products.

Track and prioritize regulatory actions in partnership with Regulatory team in order to achieve on-time delivery of new registrations.


Leadership & Oversight:

Must work with and inspire all management team leaders to contribute their part of product development including but not limited to:

  1. Production – costing and feasibility
  2. Formulation – Work with chemist on needs of formulations and specific AI and co-formulant requirements and market/site requirements
  3. Sales – competing product knowledge and market fit
  4. Marketing – packaging requirements, costing and launch
  5. Technical Managers – monitoring field trials budget and expediting field trial summaries to be used by Marketing Department


Experience & Skills

  • Education: Graduate degree in entomology, agronomy, or related sciences.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Consumer & Professional (non-crop) markets.
  • Strong mathematical skillset is mandatory for success.
  • Experience in developing long-term strategies and plans.
  • Strong project management skillset including understanding of Stage Gate process and timelines.
  • Ability to apply successful communication and networking techniques.
  • Understanding of corporate finance and measures of performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance principles and managerial best practices.
  • An analytical mind capable of “out-of-the-box” thinking to solve problems.
  • Outstanding organization and Management abilities.
  • Ability to actively listen and apply direction and guidance with focus and empathy.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.
  • Project Management and/or Six Sigma Certification a plus.
